Panetta Mercato: from Shopify to WooCommerce, with orders sent to the right store
Panetta Mercato is an Italian grocer and deli with stores across Sydney. We moved their online store from Shopify to WooCommerce and built our pickup and delivery system into it, so each order goes to the right store by suburb.
The problem
Their Shopify store was making modest online sales and could not handle how a fresh food business with several stores works.
-
Orders sorted by hand
Staff had to send each online order to the right store themselves.
-
Pickup and delivery were hard to run
Delivery areas by suburb, cut-off times and pickup slots had to be managed around the platform.
-
Fresh food is complicated
Products sold by weight or by quantity, with availability that changes from store to store.
What we built
A WooCommerce store with pickup and delivery built in, tools for the store teams, and marketing to bring customers back.
Shopify to WooCommerce
Rebuilt on WooCommerce
We moved the online store from Shopify to WooCommerce and redesigned it around how the business actually runs.
WooCommerce gave Panetta the flexibility to handle several stores, fresh food and their own fulfilment rules.
A clean storefront for produce, deli, grocery and fridge items.
The same platform has supported the business as it grew from five to seven stores.
Delivery by suburb
Each order goes to the right store
Our pickup and delivery system asks customers how they want their order before checkout.
Customers choose pickup or delivery and enter their suburb to check delivery is available.
Once a suburb is chosen, the order is allocated to the right store automatically, so staff no longer sort orders by hand.
Only the days each store can fulfil are shown, with a 6pm cut-off for next day pickup and delivery.
Store pickup
Pickup at a time that suits
Customers who collect in store pick a day and a half-hour window.
Pickup times are shown in half-hour slots between 10am and 5pm.
Days the store cannot fulfil are hidden, so customers only see what is available.
Pickup is free, with directions to the store on the same screen.
Grocery shopping
A grocery basket in fewer taps
We designed the storefront so building a weekly shop is quick, especially on mobile.
Produce, deli, grocery and fridge items are easy to find.
Customers can choose a size or weight without opening every product.
Products go straight into the cart from the category page.
Built for repeat customers doing their shop on a phone.
Store team tools
Tools for the store teams
We customised the back end to make day-to-day store work simpler.
Products can be turned on or off based on stock, and the product page shows where an item is not available.
Staff can change an order without creating a duplicate, and customers still get the right notifications.
A pickup order can be changed to delivery when a customer needs it.
Marketing
Marketing that brings customers back
Alongside the new store, we set up marketing focused on repeat orders.
Customer segments, automated flows and promotional campaigns.
Order confirmations, pickup alerts and delivery updates.
Google Ads and Meta campaigns for new customers and promotions.
